Overview of 2008 International Travel

I became a gold member of the Travelers Century Club (TCC) and a platinum member of MostTraveledPeople.com (MTP) in 2008. My analysis shows that out of six billion people on planet earth, I am among the 300 most traveled people in the world using either the TCC or MTP standard.

The tables below summarize my travels to 27 new TCC countries and an astonishing 100 new MTP locations in 2008. It is very difficult to communicate the impact of seeing so much of the globe and meeting so many interesting people.

In January I visited Africa & Europe, in February states of Mexico, in June & July the Pacific & Indian Oceans, in September & October greater Europe, and in November & December, states of Brazil & provinces of Argentina.

These trips took 95 days of intense travel requiring over 100 flights, 10 trains, 4 ferries, 4 boat trips, and countless motor vehicles.

The table summarizes the 27 TCC countries I visited for the first time in 2008. The 15 UN member countries are bolded. From the CIA website or Wikipedia, I gathered key data on these countries providing guesses where necessary. The data was color-coded to aid pattern recognition. I hope you find this insight-dense table an educational experience.

MostTraveledPeople.com Initial Visits in 2008

MostTraveledPeople.com builds on the TCC base of 319 countries by adding the states or provinces of large countries and remote islands with the goal of having the most comprehensive list of places (757) for the serious traveler to visit.

Both extreme travelers and coach potatoes can join for free. I am an active member of MTP supplying a few posts and photos for the site and providing some design feedback.

I was astonished when I added up all of the places that I had visited in 2008 and got a total of exactly 100.
